Establishing the value of genomics in medicine: the IGNITE Pragmatic Trials Network
G Ginsburg et al, Genetics in Medicine, March 29, 2021

IGNITE PTN is a network that carries out pragmatic clinical trials in genomic medicine; it is focused on diversity and inclusion of underrepresented minority trial participants; it uses electronic health records and clinical decision support to deliver the interventions. IGNITE PTN will develop the evidence to support (or oppose) the adoption of genomic medicine interventions by patients, providers, and payers.

Why indoor spaces are still prime COVID hotspots- Risks shoot up when virus particles accumulate in buildings, but it’s not clear how best to improve ventilation.

Age groups that sustain resurging COVID-19 epidemics in the United States.
Monod Mélodie et al. Science (New York, N.Y.) 2021 2 (6536)

We analyze aggregated, age-specific mobility trends from more than 10 million individuals in the United States and link these mechanistically to age-specific COVID-19 mortality data. We estimate that as of October 2020, individuals aged 20 to 49 are the only age groups sustaining resurgent SARS-CoV-2 transmission with reproduction numbers well above one and that at least 65 of 100 COVID-19 infections originate from individuals aged 20 to 49 in the United States.

Key Findings from Two Large Cohort Studies - Risk Factors Associated with In-Hospital Mortality in a U.S. National Sample of Patients with COVID-19 (USA)

Reproducibility in machine learning for health research: Still a ways to go.
McDermott Matthew B A et al. Science translational medicine 2021 13(586)

Machine learning for health must be reproducible to ensure reliable clinical use. We evaluated 511 scientific papers across several machine learning subfields and found that machine learning for health compared poorly to other areas regarding reproducibility metrics, such as dataset and code accessibility

Pharmacogenomics in Pain Management: A Review of Relevant Gene-Drug Associations and Clinical Considerations.
Brandl Emily et al. The Annals of pharmacotherapy 2021 10600280211003875

More than 300 Food and Drug Administration-approved medications contain pharmacogenomic information in their labeling. Genetic variability may alter the therapeutic effects of commonly prescribed pain medications. Pharmacogenomic-guided therapy continues to gain traction in clinical practice, but a multitude of barriers to widespread pharmacogenomic implementation exist.
