K Tingley, NY Times, April 21, 2020

Assessment of Specimen Pooling to Conserve SARS CoV-2 Testing Resources
B Abdalhamid et al, MEDRXIV, April 21, 2020

When the incidence rate of SARS-CoV-2 infection is 10% or less, group testing will result in the saving of reagents and personnel time with an overall increase in testing capability of at least 69%.

Sequencing analysis of the spread of SARS-CoV2 in the Greater New York City region
MT Maurano et al, MEDRXIV, April 21, 2020

Here, we report analysis of 156 SARS-CoV2 sequences from individuals in the New York City metropolitan area during the initial stages of the 2020 COVID-19 outbreak. The majority of samples had no recent travel history or known exposure. Comparison to global viral sequences showed that the majority of sequences were most related to samples from Europe.

Development and validation of an early warning score (EWAS) for predicting clinical deterioration in patients with coronavirus disease 2019
Y Guo et al, MEDRXIV, April 21, 2020

An Early WArning Score (EWAS) (ranging from 0 to 4.5), comprising of age, underlying chronic disease, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, C-reactive protein, and D-dimer levels, was developed (AUROC: 0.857). EWAS can predict COVID-19-related clinical deterioration and may be a useful tool for reducing mortality in highly endemic areas.

Identification of Risk Loci for Parkinson Disease in Asians and Comparison of Risk Between Asians and Europeans A Genome-Wide Association Study
JN Foo et al, JAMA Neurology, April 20, 2020

Risk prediction models constructed based on Asian and European risk variants appear to be associated with improvements in stratification of Parkinson disease risk in the worldwide population of Asian individuals.

Mapping local patterns of childhood overweight and wasting in low- and middle-income countries between 2000 and 2017
Nature Medicine, April 20, 2020

A double burden of malnutrition occurs when individuals, household members or communities experience both undernutrition and overweight. Here, we show geospatial estimates of overweight and wasting prevalence among children under 5 years of age in 105 low- and middle-income countries from 2000 to 2017 and aggregate these to policy-relevant administrative units.

A highly multiplexed biochemical assay for analytes in dried blood spots: application to newborn screening and diagnosis of lysosomal storage disorders and other inborn errors of metabolism.
Hong Xinying et al. Genetics in medicine : official journal of the American College of Medical Genetics 2020 Apr

We report a highly multiplexed UPLC-MS/MS assay that is appropriate for the newborn screening of 15 lysosomal storage diseases and 3 additional inborn errors. It can be further expanded to include additional conditions for which presymptomatic diagnosis may facilitate optimum treatment outcome.

Aggregating multiple real-world data sources using a patient-centered health-data-sharing platform
SS Dhruva et al NPJ Digital Medicine, April 20, 2020

We successfully obtained EHR data for all patients at both hospitals, as well as from ten additional health systems, which were successfully aggregated with pharmacy data obtained for patients using pharmacies; personal digital device data from activity monitors, digital weight scales, and single-lead ECGs, and patient-reported outcome measure survey data.
